Yoga Therapy Teacher Training

Villa Mandala
Loviisa, Finland
July 8 - 12, 2020

The trainings that Elia is involved with are in the collaborative project by the name of Optimal Existence Yoga. Dr. Alison Mclean and Elia, have organized an Advanced study program for aspiring Yoga Therapists. They have put together a program that serves the growing population of Yoga instructors throughout the world. As many teachers are well aware, no matter how comprehensive a 200 hour teacher training is, it can hardly suffice to give beginning teachers the knowledge that will ensure their contribution to the specific needs of different students. Subjects like Anatomy, Pathology, and Biomechanics are very complex, and therefore require a continued investment of time and attention. They are scientific subjects, in fact, and are challenging to find outside of the standard University education route. That is why Alison and Elia have collaborated on a project that brings together the confluence of cutting edge principles of Physical Therapy science and traditional Yogic teachings. The meeting of these two ends of a vast field of health-care, and the art of Living well, have distilled an approach to Health that has never been as comprehensive/complete as it is in our current age. In our trainings, we offer only the most evidence-based and self-reported/time-tested methods and techniques. Our trainings also empower and encourage teachers to help a larger variety of students and offer a truly unique service. We hope to give teachers better direction in an ever expanding, and still largely untapped professional arena.

We typically offer a 100hour program that covers some of the most common anatomical/physical pathologies, Pranayama and Meditation techniques, and review/overview of the Yogic lifestyle model that is suited to the needs of the modern individual.

The training comes in a package of 4 separate modules that include:

-Lower Back

-Pelvis and SI joint

-Thoracic spine and shoulders

-Cervical spine, Pranayama, Meditation

Yoga Wall

In the Yoga Wall Teacher Training you will have the rare opportunity to expand your knowledge of the depth and breadth of Yoga. Alison and Elia will teach you how to harness the utility and assistance of the Yoga Wall, along with the purpose of practicing poses on the Yoga Wall. You will learn traditional poses including standing poses, inversions, twists, backbends and forward bends from a different perspective, as well as alignment principles, injury prevention and healing taught by a physical therapist and a Yoga therapist.

The Yoga Wall is a prop that was originally popularised by the late BKS Iyengar, and is the only instrument that provides the individual with the ability to decompress their joints, especially the spine, and restore the space that is so integral to healthy function. The ability of the Yoga Wall to unload the pressure that the human spine has been under for decades, is unparalleled by any other technique or instrument in existence. Lower Back pain is now one of the most prevalent and costly pathologies worldwide, and the key reason that this is the case is due to the continuous pressure that the weight of the upper body imposes on the discs of the Lower Back (lumbar spine). When individuals spend so much of their life in an upright position, all of the weight of the upper body is born upon the lower back. By safely inverting the body, the Yoga Wall is able to leverage the weight of the torso to unload and decompress the extensive pressure on the lower back. The benefits of the Yoga Wall are not exclusive to the Lower Back however, and can be equally restorative and rehabilitative to the rest of the spinal column, including the neck, hips, and shoulders.

If you are a teacher, this is a tremendous way to set yourself up for the expanding field of Yoga Therapy, and give you a solid trajectory upon which you can build your career and skillset. Following the training you will be able to teach a Yoga Wall Class, giving you a specialization, and receive a Wall Method Certificate. Teachers will be able to enrich their own skill set and build credibility within their own community as someone that draws from other methodological perspectives.
